Welcome to the Hispanic Heritage Storytelling Project

The project

The history of coffee and the traditions surrounding it are vast and deep. The way in which coffee is prepared and served is unique from culture to culture and, more specifically, from family to family. Distinct memories surrounding the making and serving of coffee are rooted in tradition, family, nostalgia, and are precise in smells, colors, warmth, and feelings in a way that is explicit, relatable, and beautiful to each individual. Our goal for this storytelling project is to capture and showcase Hispanic coffee memories that celebrate the diversity of traditions within Hispanic cultures while keeping these stories within the scope of this delicious drink that we all enjoy. These stories will be collected, edited, and then shared during the Cafe Con Pan events at Elementary Coffee Co. in September & Source the Space in October. But could this project be the start of something larger and more impactful? Hopefully! The beauty is that we will get to find out together!

How to share your story with us

Join Andrea, the owner of Elementary Coffee co. and Emil Rodriguez-Powell the owner of Slice of Lime Photography and co-owner of Source Creative House, in sitting down in front of a camera and sharing with us on film your own nostalgic memories, family traditions, and preparation rituals surrounding coffee. We will be filming and shooting photographs during the Hispanic Heritage Month’s kick off event:

Cafe Con Pan, Part I on September 14, 2024 from 11am-3pm at Elementary Coffee Co. 256 North St. Harrisburg, PA 17101
